The Go Ape Foundation underscores the importance of the privacy of its donors and website visitors. Personal data is therefore handled and secured with the greatest possible care, in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
What data does the Go Ape Foundation record?
The Go Ape Foundation records permitted data such as:
- surname, first names, initials, titles, gender, date of birth, address details, telephone number, and similar data required for communication (for example, the email address), as well as the bank account number of the supporter and mailing preferences;
- a unique administration number belonging to the supporter;
- the data referred to in the first point regarding the parents, guardians, or caregivers of minor supporters;
- data relating to the support provided. This includes data on the nature of the donor status or support (for example, the start date of the support or participation in the activities of the Go Ape Foundation);
- data for calculating, recording, and collecting donations and authorizations, as well as giving behavior;
- personal data for the purpose of relationship management;
- photos and video footage, with or without sound, of activities at the Go Ape Foundation;
What does the Go Ape Foundation use your data for?
The Go Ape Foundation uses your data exclusively for the following purposes:
- activities that are customary, given our objectives as a foundation;
- calculating, recording, and collecting authorizations and donations;
- internal management;
- handling disputes;
- analyzing fundraising activities;
- performing audits.
Access to your data

We may ask for additional information to ensure that you are who you say you are in order to fulfill your request for access. The Go Ape Foundation will respond to the request within 1 month via post or email.
If you believe that the Go Ape Foundation is not honoring your request (in a timely manner) or if you suspect that your personal data has been processed in a way that conflicts with privacy laws, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
The Go Ape Foundation website
General visitor data is kept on the Go Ape Foundation website without identifying these visitors. This data includes: the frequency of visits to our website, browser type, IP address, the pages visited, and the duration of the user session. The purpose of tracking this data is to optimize the design of the website. This data can also be used to place more targeted information on the website. In this way, the Go Ape Foundation can optimize its services and information provision.
Our website contains links to external internet pages. The Go Ape Foundation is not liable for the use or content of these internet pages, or the collection of visitor data by these external websites.
The permitted retention period
The Go Ape Foundation deletes or anonymizes personal data after established periods:
- After 7 years, once the supporter has stopped their direct debit authorization and does not wish to receive mail from the Go Ape Foundation, in connection with the legal retention period for financial documents;
- After 2 years, once the supporter has indicated they will not be making donations/gifts (this does not involve an authorization but payment/gifts via their own payment slips or bank transfer) and no longer wishes to receive mail from the Go Ape Foundation;
- Within 1 month after exercising the right to erasure.
- If the support has been discontinued but the individual still wishes to receive mail from the Go Ape Foundation, the personal data will be retained.
