In just 50 years, the number of chimpanzees has fallen from 1 million to fewer than 150,000 animals. Illegal logging, animal trafficking, and poaching are their greatest threats. It is therefore of great importance to better protect chimpanzees and their habitat.

Go Ape Foundation works with wonderful chimpanzee sanctuaries in West Africa and supports small-scale projects that we select ourselves, ranging from protection and education to conservation. For instance, we regularly donate toward the daily and medical care of (baby) chimpanzees and for ranger equipment. We also funded part of a major medical check-up for 100 chimpanzees in Sierra Leone, which Rowena also coordinated on-site upon request.
In 2024, we are primarily funding the rollout and support of education projects in schools in Cameroon and Sierra Leone. Through these, students learn everything about the nature surrounding them and why it is so important to preserve it, along with the animals, trees, and plants living within it.
